The japanese publisher Kawade Shobo Shinsha (河出書房新社) will celebrate its 140th anniversary in 2026. As part of a countdown initiative, the publisher launched スピン SPIN, a magazine with the main concept being “A Bookmark in Your Daily Life.” This quarterly magazine, limited to 16 issues, covers a wide range of genres, from novels to essays, columns, and special series focusing on topics like paper, books, poetry, and book reviews in various formats. Each issue will also include original cover art and illustrations.

The name Spin was chosen by author Riku Onda. The concept of “A Bookmark in Your Daily Life” reflects the magazine's intent to slip into the fast pace of daily life like a bookmark, encouraging readers to pause for a moment. The magazine also aims to introduce a small “change” to everyday life.

Every issue of Spin will use a different type of paper for the cover, allowing readers to experience the visual and tactile differences. Surplus paper stock will be used in parts like the table of contents. The series “Paper Stories” will also run throughout all 16 issues, where various writers will explore different aspects of paper, sharing their insights with readers.
